The FINANCIAL — Yulia Tymoshenko considers questionable statements made by representatives of the current government on its rapid progress, particularly in preparation for the final of the 2012 UEFA European Football Championship, according to the official web site of Yulia Tymoshenko.
"Do you really believe that one can complete a large-scale project in three months?" Yulia Tymoshenko said, in response to a question by "Korrespondent" magazine on why her government was unable to speed up preparations for Euro 2012.
The former prime minister recalled that the issue of holding or not holding the European Championships in Ukraine was being considered when her government was in power. "I think you know that when we arrived, the Euro was being taken away from Ukraine. This was exactly when Yanukovych handed us the government. And when we were in charge it has been decided to keep Euro in Ukraine, and in those cities which were preparing for it. It is even funny sometimes, when I watch television news and every day they report about the completion of some giant facility. I think that all reasonable people understand that we handed all of this to them. How can anyone after one month in power launch a new model of the AN airplane? Clearly, this is impossible," she said.
"We left all the construction projects in very good condition despite the crisis. I want to remind you that for 25 years the Dnister hydroelectric power station was not being built. I completed its construction. This is a huge facility," Yulia Tymoshenko said.
At the same time, the former prime minister stressed that she is not inclined to overestimate the effectiveness of the previous authorities as well as her government. "The country has not had real reforms, has not created a true democracy. I think that these five years were lost. So I`m not saying that we are proud of something – I am just saying that I did my job honestly," she said.
Yulia Tymoshenko recalled that her government had been isolated from the possibility of employing mechanisms to implement real reforms. "I do not consider the past five years after the Orange Revolution successful. During these five years I was prime minister intermittently, and I was being sabotaged and in complete isolation from the tools that can implement real reforms, such as a majority in parliament and support from the president. That’s why the last five years were unsuccessful," she said.
