The FINANCIAL — Yulia Tymoshenko, leader of the Yulia Tymoshenko bloc faction (BYuT), urges the Ukrainians to come to the Verkhovna Rada at 10:00 a.m., September 7, and demand from the Verkhovna Rada to pass a moratorium upon an increase in gas price for population, the BYuT press-service said in a statement.
"We believe the authorities have no right to set world gas prices for population during the economic downturn since income of our citizens is much lower than that in neighbouring European countries," the statement said.
The Yulia Tymoshenko bloc faction (BYuT) in the Verkhovna Rada will insist on extraordinary examination of the draft law and its approval in the first meeting of a new parliamentary session, September 7.
As Ukrainian News reported, the National Electricity Regulation Commission doubled gas price for population and communal heating enterprises on August 1.
The memorandum signed between Ukraine and the International Monetary Fund envisages a repeated rise in gas prices by 50% as of April 2011.
Serhii Tihipko, vice prime minister for economic affairs, does not rule out that the Cabinet of Ministers might refuse doubling a natural gas price for population in April 2011 provided the budget of the Naftohaz Ukrainy national joint-stock company is balanced by that time.
