The FINANCIAL — U.S. Ambassador John Tefft is sure Ukraine needs a penal justice reform, reads a statement made by the press service of the Ministry of Justice.
According to the statement, on April 16 Justice Minister Oleksandr Lavrynovych had a meeting with Tefft.
In course of the meeting Tefft announced the U.S. Department of Justice intention to arrange in Kyiv jointly with the European Union mission a conference devoted to penal justice reforms on May 18.
Lavrynovych received an invitation to the event from the U.S. Ambassador, to give professional assessment of the prospects of the penal justice reforms in the country.
During the meeting Tefft expressed interest in the new authorities' plans concerning changes and development of the legislation in the problem areas.
In course of the meeting the sides also discussed prospects of implementation of the judicial reform, amendments to the anti-corruption package of laws.
Besides, the Ambassador says the sphere of public procurements in Ukraine needs soonest legislative regulation.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the United States is ready to assist Ukraine in economic reforms and in resuming cooperation with the International Monetary Fund.
The United States count on active collaboration with the Ukrainian government.
