The FINANCIAL — The number of Americans filing for first-time unemployment benefits rose last week, but remains consistent with a labor market that is steadily adding jobs.
Initial jobless claims, a proxy for layoffs across the U.S., increased by 3,000 to a seasonally adjusted 267,000 in the week ended September 19, the Labor Department said on September 24, according to Nasdaq.
Economists surveyed by The Wall Street Journal had expected 275,000 new claims last week.
