The FINANCIAL — The general planted areas under barley in Ukraine for the harvest-2016 may reach 3 mln ha, an increase of 5% compared with the previous year index (2.8 mln ha), declared the grain analyst at APK-Inform Agency, Andrew Kupchenko.
According to the forecast, the harvested areas under winter barley will total 816 thsd ha (down 36% compared with 2015), and the areas under spring barley will increase to 2.15 mln ha (up 22%).
Also, A.Kupchenko noted that during 5 recent seasons, there was observed systematic reduction of the planted areas of barley in Ukraine to 2.8 mln ha in 2015, against more than 4.5 mln ha in 2010. At the same time, during 2 recent seasons the world market formed rather high demand for Ukrainian barley, which became one of the major factors for increasing of the grain areas in Ukraine.
