The FINANCIAL — Ukraine is considering the possibility of increasing its participation in the work of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
President Viktor Yanukovych announced this at a meeting of the Council of CIS Heads of State in Moscow (Russia).
«Ukraine is presently performing active work involving inventorying of our participation in the commonwealth… the possibility of Ukraine joining the CIS’ individual agencies for sectorial cooperation and removing the reservations on several of the commonwealth’s documents is also being considered,» Yanukovych said.
Specifically, Yanukovych said Ukraine was considering removing its reservations on the CIS strategy for economic cooperation until the year 2020 and the concept for development of the commonwealth.
He also stressed that Ukraine was considering cooperation with post-Soviet countries as one of the most important aspects pf its foreign-policy and economic interests.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, a meeting of the Council of CIS Heads of State opened in Moscow on December 10.
Ukraine signed the procedures of the Council of CIS Heads of State, the Council of CIS Heads of Government, the Council of CIS Foreign Affairs Ministers, and the CIS Economic Council in November.
Ukraine expects to sign the new, improved agreement on creation of a CIS free trade zone.
