The FINANCIAL — Ukraine and the European Union are intending to hold the eighth round of the negotiations on the free trade area between them in October.
Ukrainian News learned this from a statement by the press service of the European Commission's delegation to Ukraine.
The seventh round of the negotiations was held in Kyiv June 30 through July 3.
During the seventh round of the negotiations, representatives of the European Commission and the representatives of the Ukrainian government discussed the questions of tariff compromises and specified their positions on matters of sensitive agricultural produce, processed agricultural products, and products of the fishing industry.
The delegations of Ukraine and the European Union stressed during the negotiations they are prepared to continue discussing matters on improvement of mutual access to their markets during the next round of the negotiations.
Four-day negotiations yielded essential progress in such questions as competitive policies, the protection of intellectual property rights, including geographical names, trade in commodities and technical regulations, the state procurement, trade in the energy sector.
The ninth round of the negotiations will take place in December 2009.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Kyiv hosted the seventh round of the Ukraine-EU free trade area negotiations June 30 through July 3.
President Viktor Yuschenko is confident the free trade area agreement between Ukraine and the European Union will be signed by May 2010.
