The FINANCIAL — Turkey has always been a priority for the export of soybeans from Ukraine. In 2011/12 and 2012/13 this Middle Eastern country bought 10% of the exported Ukrainian soybeans, and since the season-2013/14 Turkey has confidently taken the first place among importers, surpassing former leaders – Italy, Egypt and Spain.
At the end of 2014/15 MY, soybean exports from Ukraine to Turkey totaled more than 900`000 tonnes, which is almost up 4 times from the result of the previous season. Moreover, in the first 8 months of 2015/16 MY (September-April), Turkey purchased 682`000 tonnes, up 20% from the same period last season, ranking at the moment to 40% of total exports of soybeans from Ukraine.
According to the USDA forecast, in 2015/16 MY Turkey will import 2.3 million tonnes of soybeans, up 5% from the previous season. However, given the current rates of soybean exports from Ukraine and the share in deliveries to the Turkish market at 40%, this figure, according to APK-Inform, will be higher and may reach about 2.5-2.7 million tonnes, including 1.0-1.1 million tonnes from Ukraine.
