The FINANCIAL — President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko forecasts that Ukraine will receive the status of an associate member of the European Union as early as in September.
According to an UNIAN correspondent, he said this speaking at the V Assembly of the World Movement for Democracy on April 7.
According to the President, in September it is planned to sign the political part of the new Enhanced Agreement between Ukraine and EU. This proposal was submitted by France to the European Commission. In its turn, EC sent the draft to EU member countries, Yushchenko disclosed. “I guess we will receive a clear perspective of EU membership, as well as we received a clear perspective of our NATO membership several years ago”, the President said. He expressed a belief that Ukraine will become a full-fledged member of EU and NATO.
“I have no doubt about that”, the President stressed.
A part of the Enhanced Agreement between Ukraine and EU will stipulate creating a free trade zone between Ukraine and EU, Victor Yushchenko added.
At the same time, the President emphasized that friendly relations with Russia are also important for Ukraine.
