The FINANCIAL — According to RIA Novosti, the voter turnout at Sunday's presidential election in Ukraine was 67.05%, the ex-Soviet state's Central Election Commission said citing data on 76 electoral districts in 22 regions out of a total of 225 districts.
First official results with less than half percent of the vote processed gave opposition Party of Regions leader Viktor Yanukovych 33.99% of the vote and Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko 29.5%.
Exit polls gave Yanukovych 31.5%-36.6% of the vote, followed by Tymoshenko with 25%-27.2%. The two have made it to the runoff, due February 7.
According to exit polls, ex-National Bank head Serhiy Tyhypko gained 13.2%-13.5% of the vote, followed by ex-parliament speaker Arseniy Yatsenyuk with 6.6%-7.8% and incumbent President Viktor Yushchenko with 5.2%-6%.
The Ukrainian president is elected for five years. The election comes off if 50% of voters have cast their ballots.
