The FINANCIAL — Following their announcement on April 28, 2011 of the establishment of the MUFG NFUAJ East Japan Earthquake Recovery and Scholarship Fund, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group,Inc.
The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, Ltd. (BTMU) and The National Federation of UNESCO Associations in Japan today announced that procedures for fiscal 2011 applicants have been completed and 1,235 recipients of scholarship funds have been confirmed.
Based on the number of applicants to date as well as the predicted number of future applicants to the
scholarship program, the total size of the Scholarship Fund is expected to exceed 3.0 billion yen, and BTMU
has decided to increase its contribution to the fund from 1.0 billion yen to 2.0 billion yen.
The fund will be operated through a combination of this contribution and the estimated 1.0 billion yen to be collected through donations from staff and executives of MUFG group companies, and donations from the MUFG
shareholders benefit program.Applications will be accepted in February of each year from 2012 and 2014 on behalf of children who have lost one or both parents in the Great East Japan Earthquake that are entering elementary school in April of that year.
