INWOOD, NY – Two brush fires erupted in Inwood Hill Park on Wednesday. The first, near Seaman Avenue and West 207th Street, was reported at about 2:40 p.m. and was under control at 4:07 p.m., an FDNY spokesperson confirmed.
A second fire in the park was reported at around 3:05 p.m. on Wednesday, near West 218th Street, according to officials.
The “large” brush fire remains active as of 5:10 p.m., an FDNY spokesperson confirmed, and approximately 80 fire and EMS personnel are on scene. Brush fire apparatus units, drones, and a marine unit are all being utilized, authorities said.
There are no reports of injuries at this time. The cause of each fire remains under investigation.
A record number of brush fires – 229 – have ignited throughout the city in recent weeks, with 24 recorded in Manhattan alone.
