The FINANCIAL — US Embassy’s Office of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement hosted a study visit for technical staff from Georgia’s National Probation Agency to Minneapolis and Madison, Wisconsin this week.
Five experts in electronic monitoring standards and IT visited 3M headquarters in Minneapolis, Minnesota and INL’s Corrections and Probation partner, the Wisconsin Department of Corrections, in order to review electronic monitoring standards and operations, and discuss technical aspects of Georgia’s contract with 3M.
Georgia signed a contract with 3M to provide bracelets for juveniles sentenced to home arrest that will be electronically tracked. This is part of a pilot program that is foreseen in recent juvenile justice code changes and we hope will lead to use for adults, providing an alternative to pre-trial incarceration, according to Embassy of the United States Georgia.
The visit is part of the INL’s strategic objective to assist Georgia to strengthen its rule of law practices. The National Probation Agency will open its technical monitoring center for juveniles sentence to home arrest in October.
