The FINANCIAL — Wearing makeup is not only a thing of beauty, but it also protects the skin of one’s face, say dermatologists and cosmeticians.
Although almost every single woman uses or at least knows how to use make up, mistakes in its application are quite common. Here is the advice dermatologists and cosmeticians have for those for whom makeup is a daily part of life.
“Through trial and error women are able to find out which cosmetic products are the most appropriate for their skin type. Every woman should consider her skin type, face shape and age before applying makeup,” said Nino Lomsadze, Dermatologist at Aversi Clinic, Tbilisi. “Skin type could be dry skin, normal skin or oily skin. Face shape could be wide, average or narrow. As for age, I do not mean passport data. I mean four groups of age: young, average age, mature and elderly. If the makeup is chosen according to all these recommendations, problems will not occur anymore,” she added.
“To achieve glowing skin it is important to know the right beauty products to use. Today it is not difficult to choose skin care products as there is a wide variety of choice in beauty cosmetics,” said Ia Kargareteli, Dermato-cosmetician, Medi Aesthetics, Tbilisi. “Understanding your skin type to select the right cosmetics is the first, most basic rule every women should consider. The skincare routine varies for each skin type. The basic skincare regime involves cleaning, toning and moisturizing. As for the texture of skin, it changes with age, which means that using the same type of cosmetics won’t always give you the same results. Periodically, skin gets drier and becomes more prone to wrinkles. Leading cosmetics brands have come up with a number of products that delay the signs of ageing,” she added.
Another most important thing women should know is the components of their cosmetics. Outdated and low quality products are useless. “Otherwise there will be unwelcome physical reactions such as peeling, spots, getting red and too oily,” Lomsadze said. “The most dangerous effect is if allergic symptoms appear. I mean contact dermatitis. It is a localized rash or irritation of the skin caused by contact with a foreign substance. As the face’s skin is very sensitive, contact dermatitis can develop easily,” she added.
“My next advice is to clean your face carefully at the end of the day. Always make sure you wash your face before you go to bed to remove makeup, dirt and other debris,” Kargareteli said. “Here are the reasons why you should wash your face before going to sleep. First of all your pores are filled with all the outside elements from the day like dirt, dust, smoke, smog, etc. Also, when you leave your makeup on too long your pores get clogged up and that can lead to large pores, acne, rashes, and irritated skin. Your skin repairs itself at night and clean skin can absorb skincare products better,” she added.
“Going to sleep with makeup on is one of the worst makeup-related habits. Skin gets coated with a daily blend of environmental debris every day. Can you imagine how your skin suffocates under this “coat”? If you do not wash your face every evening, your pores will suffer,” added Lomsadze.
Cosmeticians say the best makeup is when it is not noticeable and the face has a natural look. Also, according to their advice, it is useful for skin to have makeup on it as it protects the skin. “Cosmetics contain such additives that protect the skin during the daytime. Again, environmental problems affect the skin and damage it. If you wear a good quality tonic crème it means you are protecting your skin. There are lots of makeup products and it’s definitely not that difficult to find a good one for your specific skin type. Once again don’t be lazy about searching and consulting experts so that you can find the best products for yourself,” said Kargareteli.
