The FINANCIAL — Valentine’s Day has become famous in Georgia too and some couples have started celebrating this date, although it is yet to become nearly as popular as it is abroad.
In different parts of the world, candy, flowers and gifts are exchanged between loved ones, all in the name of St. Valentine. Valentine’s Day, or St Valentine’s Day, is celebrated every year on 14 February. It’s the day when people show their affection for another person by sending anonymous cards, flowers or chocolates with messages of love.
“In my view, one of the least romantic days of the year is Valentine’s Day. The majority of men act like robots, buying flowers and chocolate for their loved ones because that’s what many others all around the world are doing. Many people celebrate the day out of obligation rather than a sincere sense of celebration,” said Maka Abashidze, 25.
“I strongly believe that Valentine’s Day is the worst day. So what? Should we hate each other during the other 364 days? I never celebrate this day, for me this is the new style of culture which is trying to enter Georgia, but somehow the tradition is becoming more popular among the lower income segments than high-income people,” said Ketevan Kalandadze, 20.
“I am a very romantic person and I am always in love, but I never celebrate Valentine’s Day. I don’t think that any special day is needed for giving out gifts and arranging a romantic dinner for couples, it should happen every day. Some Georgians have started celebrating this day, but I don’t think that this day will become as popular in Georgia as it is in other countries. Georgians are religious people and if I am not mistaken, the church doesn’t recognize this date as one for being celebrated and that’s one of the biggest reasons why Valentine’s Day can’t boost its popularity here,” said Levan Gagnidze, 25.
Despite the fact that some Georgians say that Valentine’s Day has no any special meaning for them, famous chocolate stores and flowers shops have started offering their services specially for this date.
“Roses are much more popular over Valentine’s Day and people mostly buy bouquets of them at this time. We already have orders for special Valentine’s Day bouquets, whereby couples have the opportunity to make their loved ones happy,” said Sopo Nikoladze, PR Manager of FlowersGE.
“We make special bouquets for Valentine’s Day. We have 24 hour home delivery and an international delivery system, which works nearly everywhere in the world. No matter whether its Valentine’s Day or any other celebrative event, our clients can easily buy beautiful flower bouquets at our store,” Nikoladze said.
As chocolate is one of the best gifts for Valentine’s Day, those who decide to celebrate this day and buy chocolates for their loved ones can visit Rosali Sambar.
The cost of a set of chocolate starts from 8 GEL, going up to 21 GEL.
According to Chocolate World Net, while 75% of chocolate purchases are made by women all year round, during the days and minutes leading up to Valentine’s Day, 75% of the chocolate purchases are made by men. Over 1 billion USD of chocolate is purchased for Valentine’s Day.
Those who want to buy perfume for Valentine’s Day can visit perfume stores. Ici Paris offers special discounts for Valentine’s Day on different products.
“I advise couples to buy special perfume sets that include small accessories as well. For 13 and 14 February we will offer discounts to our clients and offer them different presents. Love Chloe is one of the best perfumes I would advise as a Valentine’s Day gift for women and for men – Marc Jacobs Bang,” said Khatia Shamugia, Ici Paris representative.
