The FINANCIAL — A victim of the Raspadskaya coal mine blast, who has been in hospital for more than four months, died on Sunday, bringing the official death toll to 68, the regional emergencies center said on August 23, according to Ria Novosti.
"Three people remain in hospital, 13 are receiving out-patient treatment," the center said in a statement.
Two explosions ripped through the Raspadskaya coalmine in the town of Mezhdurechensk won May 8 and 9. Sixty-seven bodies have been recovered from the mine so far and another 23 miners are still registered as missing.
Many of the dead were rescue workers who went into the mine after the first explosion. Rescue efforts were hampered by frequent fires and underflooding.
The Raspadskaya coal company began pumping out water from the mine on August 18.
