The FINANCIAL — In September 2015 the number of passengers handed by Vienna Airport increased by 4.3% from the prior-year month to a total of 2,279,800.
Local passenger volume was also up 5.7% in the same period. In September 2015 Vienna Airport also reported a rise of 1.2% in the number of transfer passengers from the comparable level in September 2014. The number of flight movements was up by 0.1%, whereas the maximum take-off weight also showed a positive development, increasing by 4.3%. In September 2015 total air cargo rose 0.3% from the previous year. On balance, total passenger volume in the period January to September 2015 climbed 1.5% year-on-year, according to Vienna Airport.
The number of passengers flying to Western Europe rose by 4.4% in September 2015, whereas passenger volume to Eastern Europe was up by 2.4%. The Middle East region showed a rise of 8.6% in September 2015 in contrast to the 0.3% drop in the number of passengers travelling to the Far East. Passenger volume to North American destinations rose by 4.2% in September 2015, whereas passenger volume to Africa was down 15.8% from September 2014 due to developments in Tunesia.
The strategic investments of Flughafen Wien AG developed well. The number of passengers handled by Kosice Airport rose 9.8% in the period January to September 2015 to a total of 328,434 passengers. In the same period Malta Airport registered an increase of 7.0% to 3,623,117 passengers.
