The FINANCIAL — On March 10, 2016 the exhibition of Georgia’s architectural heritage – “At the Intersection of Continents”, was officially opened, at the headquarters of Vienna Insurance Group– Ringturm, in Vienna. The exhibition is organized by Wiener Städtische Versicherungsverein,the principal shareholder of Vienna Insurance Group (VIG), the leading insurance group in Austria, Central and Eastern Europe, with corporate history of about two centuries. The exposition is dedicated to the 25th anniversary of independence of Georgia.
At the official opening ceremony – Dr. Günter Geyer, General Manager of Wiener Städtische Versicherungsverein addressed the audience with welcome speech,together with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Mr.Gigi Gigiadze. Among other guests, the Ambassador of Georgia to the Republic of Austria – Dr. Konstantine Zaldastanishvili, as far as the representatives of Group member companies: IRAO and GPI Holding were presented on the opening ceremony.
Vienna Insurance Group has been operating in Georgia for about 10 years. With its Group companies GPIH and IRAO, it is number 1 insurer (according to 2014 results)and one of the biggest investor on the Georgian insurance market.
“This exhibition is very important for Georgia. First of all, we are the country whose major goal for the upcoming years is to integrate in the European Family. Definitely, it is the excellent opportunity for proper positioning. Second, exhibition enables Austrian Society to get more information about our solid architectural inheritance.” – said Vakhtang Dekanosidze, CEO of International Insurance Company IRAO.
On the exhibition, the emphasis is on Tbilisi and its diverse architectural landscape and history from the end of the 19th century to the present day, including buildings designed along European lines, as well as Soviet architecture, and includes numerous internationally renowned constructions. The exhibition also addresses various trends that have taken shape since the end of the Khrushchev era. The exhibition visualizes and represents around 60 buildings of this specific architectural development in Georgia’s capital Tbilisi. In addition to this, a large-format city map at the entrance to the show features all buildings on display, providing orientation to the exhibition visitor and a large-format contemporary city panorama creates the atmospheric background for the overall presentation. In the center of the exhibition hall, a number of models and three-dimensional objects are situated. A variety of original documents, such as maps, photographs, architectural sketches, historical postcards, as well as original publications such as books and magazines are also represented. All buildings and objects in the show is also represented in the large exhibition catalogue. The concept of the exhibition belongs to Adolph Stiller. Speaker – Irina Kurtishvili.
