The FINANCIAL — On 11 March 2015, the Georgian Foreign Minister Tamar Beruchashvili signed Agreement on Partial Exemption of Visa Requirements for Holders of Ordinary Passports between the Government of Georgia and the Government of the Federative Republic of Brazil sign, according to MFA Georgia.
The signature of the Agreement is the result of the countries’ coordinated and long-term work.
The Agreement will enter into force 30 days after the day on which it is signed. It allows ordinary passport holders to travel to each other’s countries visa for tourism or business purposes. More specifically, following the entry into force of the Agreement, Georgian citizens may enter to, stay in and transit through the Brazilian territory for 90 days in any 180-day period. The day of entry will be calculated as the first day of stay in the country. The same rule will apply to Brazilian citizens. The signature of the Agreement will facilitate cooperation between the two countries, bring their business communities closer and promote the exchange of tourists and the strengthening of people-to-people contacts.
Prior to the signing ceremony, Tamar Beruchashvili met the Brazilian Ambassador to Georgia, H.E. Carlos Alberto Lopes Asfora. The sides discussed the priorities of bilateral cooperation in the areas of political dialogue, trade, economy, culture and education, focusing on the importance of carrying out high- and highest-level visits, emphasizing the success of the mechanism of bilateral political consultations and the significance of conducting next round in Tbilisi during the current year. Tamar Beruchashvili acquainted the Brazilian Ambassador with the security situation in Georgia and in the region as a whole and discussed the threats and challenges facing the Georgian Government.
The diplomatic relations between Georgia and Brazil were established on 28 April 1993. In 2010 the Embassy of Georgia was set up in the Federative Republic of Brazil – a step which was reciprocated by Brazil in 2011. During the last few years a number of high-level visits were carried out both at executive and legislative levels. The signature of this Agreement is yet another step towards successful cooperation Georgia and Brazil and bears paramount importance in terms of interstate partnership and people-to-people contacts.
