The FINANCIAL — Thousands of travelers stranded at airports due to the recent volcano eruption in Iceland have turned to social networks to find alternatives routes home, according to RIA Novosti.
People are coordinating their efforts in the Internet to find accommodation for the night and alternative travel plans to get home.
Travelers use social tools such as the Roadsharing site and Twitter, where 'ashtag' has become one of the most popular hashtags in microblogs to discuss the effects of the Icelandic volcano eruption.
However, in this difficult situation people try to react with humor and find new words such as 'volcation' (volcano + vacation) as well as tell each other volcano-related jokes.
Meanwhile, air companies such as British Airways have also turned to Twitter to post the latest information on the flights they operate and answer questions asked by passengers.
