The FINANCIAL — The American Farm Bureau Federation recently reported that Americans will pay more to feed 10 people for Thanksgiving dinner this year than since the mid-1980’s. The average turkey feast for 10 this year will cost $49.20 – that’s $5.73 more than it cost just last year.
Shoppers at Walmart will pay 1/3 less for the same Thanksgiving groceries and will have an extra $15 in their wallet with this savings.“Customers tell us that they are more worried than ever about being able to afford holiday meals for their families as grocery prices continue to increase,” said Jack Sinclair, executive vice president of grocery, Walmart. “We’re doing everything we can to maintain our everyday low prices and avoid passing on rising food costs to our customers, so they can enjoy their traditional family meals all season long.
“We aren’t in the business of high-low pricing or gimmicks like pre-qualifiers and loyalty cards. Our goal is to provide customers with low prices on everything, every day.
“If you think about it, based on the Farm Bureau’s statistics, if you were to shop at Walmart for your Thanksgiving meal for 10, you could essentially feed three of your guests for free because you saved so much on the overall meal,” Sinclair added.
A total of 141 volunteer shoppers from 35 states participated in Farm Bureau’s informal survey this year. The products Walmart used in this analysis are identical to items included in the AFBF report.
