The FINANCIAL — Georgian Vice Premier, Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze highlighted important achievements of Georgia’s foreign policy when speaking at the Ambassadorial Meeting 2017 in Tbilisi.
According to him, 2016 was an eventful year internationally with important implications for Georgia. He thanked Georgian diplomats for their work which has yielded tangible results in terms of Georgia’s foreign policy.
The Vice Premier singled out for special mention the progress Georgia has achieved on its path of European integration, visa liberalization, in particular, which, according to Mikheil Janelidze will “lead Georgia to its eventual goal of full EU membership, for which the Georgian Government has an ambitious action plan”.
Mikheil Janelidze paid special attention to the intensive dynamics of NATO-Georgia relations saying that Georgia enjoys strong political and practical support from the Alliance. “We did a great deal of work to ensure that Georgia is recognized as a stable and democratic country aiming at ensuring the rule of law, protection of human rights, stopping Russia’s aggression and occupation of Georgian territories and uniting the communities divided by occupation lines” – Mikheil Janelidze said.
The Georgian Foreign Minister added that, thanks to Georgia’s active diplomatic efforts, Russia has been brought under international pressure for the illegal actions committed in the occupied territories, according to MFA of Georgia.
“Russia’s aggressive actions are strongly condemned by the UN, OSCE, Council of Europe, as well as by our partners. But more needs to be done. And we will do our utmost to achieve the unity of our country through peaceful and diplomatic means” – Mikheil Janelidze said.
Annual gathering of Heads of Georgian Diplomatic Missions abroad -“Result-Oriented Diplomacy in Turbulent Environment” was officially opened today and will last for 4 days.
