The FINANCIAL — According to CIvil Georgia, Russia’s real face has been made clear for everyone in the world and EU has started considering sending peacekeepers to Georgia’s conflict zones after Russia’s aggression against Georgia, Giga Bokeria, the Georgia’s deputy foreign minister, said.
“It is tragic that Georgia had to pay this price for convincing many European countries for replacement of the Russian peacekeepers. And unfortunately we had to pay high price for this,” Bokeria told Rustavi 2 TV late on August 17.
He said that German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s statement that Germany was ready to contribute peacekeepers was a milestone and signaled change of the position of the European states on the matter.
Merkel speaking at the news conference in Tbilisi after talks with President Saakashvili said that although Germany was ready to contribute, the issue still needed further negotiations.
