According to a study conducted by the HSE, slips and trips account for over a third of all injuries reported at the workplace in the UK. Whatever the reasons for slipping or tripping, it’s important to know some of the common injuries that could occur because of such accidents.

When you slip or trip, you can really hurt yourself. Depending on how you fall, you could bruise yourself, get a concussion, or even break a bone. It’s important to be aware of the possibilities so that you can take steps to avoid them. So what are the common injuries resulting from slipping and tripping? We will discuss some of the injuries you could experience if you slip and trip.

What are the most common injuries from slip or trip accidents?

Before we get started on our list, it’s important to understand that if you are involved in a slip or trip accident, where your employer failed to provide a safe place of work, then you may be due a compensation payment. Likewise, if you’re in a shop where maybe there has been a spillage that hasn’t been cleaned up resulting in a slip and injury, then they have a responsibility to ensure that you are adequately compensated for the injuries experienced.

So, if you have been injured by a slip or trip accident then it’s important to get in touch with solicitors who specialise in helping individuals in these situations. They will help you to navigate the legal system and be awarded the compensation you’re due.

Fractures

Slip and trip accidents can often result in fractures, especially if the victim falls hard or from a great height. The most common type of fracture suffered in slip and trip accidents is a broken bone, which can occur in any part of the body. However, some of the more serious fractures that have been known to occur as a result of slip and trip accidents include shattered pelvises, compound fractures (where the bone breaks through the skin), and spine fractures.

Back Injury

Slip and trip accidents are some of the most common injuries that people suffer from. One of the most common injuries is a back injury. This can occur when you slip on something and fall, or when you trip over something and fall. Back injuries can be very painful and can take a long time to heal. If you have a back injury, it is important to see a doctor right away so that they can treat it properly.

Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBIs)

TBIs are one of the most common injuries sustained in slip and trip accidents. TBIs can occur when a person falls and hits their head on a hard surface or when they are hit by a falling object. Symptoms of a TBI can include headaches, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, seizures, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. If you suspect that you or someone else has suffered a TBI, it is important to seek medical attention immediately.

Lacerations

A laceration is a cut or gash in the skin. Lacerations can be caused by blunt force trauma or sharp objects. In slip and trip accidents, lacerations are typically caused by contact with a hard surface, such as a floor or pavement.

Sprains and strains

The most common type of injury from slip and trip accidents is a sprain or strain, which occurs when the ligaments or muscles are stretched beyond their normal limits. This can happen if you fall awkwardly, twist your body unexpectedly, or overexert yourself while trying to catch yourself. Sprains and strains can be painful and may take several weeks to heal completely.

Cuts and scrapes

Slip and trip accidents are one of the most common causes of injuries. Cuts and scrapes are the most common types of injuries from a slip or trip. Most cuts and scrapes can be treated at home with over-the-counter medications and home remedies. However, more serious cuts may require medical attention.

Spinal Cord Injuries:

A slipped or tripped injury is the most serious type of injury that can result from a slip and trip accident. They can lead to paralysis or even death. Head injuries can also be very serious, especially if they involve a concussion or brain damage. Broken bones can be painful and may require surgery to heal properly.

Broken Hip

A broken hip is one of the most common injuries suffered in a slip and trip accident. This is usually caused by a fall where the victim lands awkwardly on their hip. The impact of the fall can cause the bone to break, or it can dislocate the joint. Either way, this injury can be extremely painful and will require medical attention.

Injuries to the shoulders and neck

One of the most common injuries from a slip or trip is a shoulder or neck injury. This can be caused by the force of the fall or by the sudden jerk as your body tries to catch itself. Either way, it can result in serious pain and discomfort and may even require surgery to be corrected.

Head Injury

Slip and trip accidents are one of the most common causes of head injuries. Head injuries can range from a concussion to a traumatic brain injury, which may necessitate surgery. The most common head injuries from slip and trip accidents include concussions, contusions, lacerations, and skull fractures.

Limb fractures

The most common type of fracture from slip and trip accidents is a fracture to the arm or leg. This is usually the result of a fall, where the weight of the body comes down on the limb, causing it to break. In some cases, such as when someone falls awkwardly or onto something sharp, multiple bones may be broken.

Final thoughts

Slip and trip accidents are one of the most common types of accidents that occur in the workplace. They can happen anywhere, at any time, and to anyone. The most common injuries from slip and trip accidents include cuts, bruises, sprains, fractures, and head injuries.

Most slips and trips are caused by wet or uneven surfaces. Other common causes include clothing that gets caught on something, obstacles in walkways, and poor lighting. To prevent these types of accidents from happening, it is important to keep walking areas clear and free of hazards. Also, be sure to wear appropriate shoes for the work environment and always walk with caution.

If a slip or trip accident does occur, it is important to seek medical attention right away. These types of injuries can often be more serious than they appear at first glance. And if not treated properly, they can lead to long-term problems such as chronic pain or disability.
