The FINANCIAL — Psychologists and HR Managers in Georgia say that out of all the possible jobs available to women these days, the majority would be happiest working in health and beauty or in the restaurant business. Most women interviewed by The FINANCIAL for this article said that they would like most to have an active job and plenty of interaction with different people as part of their everyday work.
“Women today are becoming increasingly active in their lives. They work hard to achieve success in their respective careers so as to build better futures for themselves. There are actually no spheres left where women cannot achieve success, but in my opinion the best sphere for women to work in is health and beauty. Women love to look after themselves, dress well and keep fit. Given this fact, working as the top manager of a cosmetics shop or even working as the director of a beauty centre would bring them great satisfaction as well as a steady salary. Many people visit beauty salons and beauty centres these days so it’s actually quite a lucrative business,” said Nana Khatiashvili, PhD, Personal Psychologist.
“There are plenty of directions which I would recommend that women work in, and one of these is healthcare. Being a personal trainer or massage therapist is one of the most in demand professions these days. I think that being a pharmacist is also one of the best professions for women as well as being reasonably well paid. The average salary of a pharmacist amounts to GEL 700-800,” said Ekaterine Abashidze, Head of HR at Women and Health medical centre.
“In general, healthcare jobs bring in quite good income for women. There are many female nurses who have incomes of about GEL 800-900. I would also suggest to women that they consider becoming physiologists, which have incomes of about GEL 900-1,000 and up depending on the company or organization they work for. Health service managers also have quite good incomes, about GEL 1,000-1,200 per month,” Abashidze said.
According to Abashidze, working as a chef at one of the country’s popular and trendy restaurants is quite profitable and would bring in income of about GEL 800-1,000 per month. She also suggests that women think about working as marketing or sales managers at different companies and says that the average salary in these fields is GEL 1,200-1,500.
“Experience has proved that thanks to their inherent characters, most women love to be at the helm in their work lives. It’s quite trendy nowadays to run one’s own small bar or cafe, so I would recommend that women who are thinking of starting up their own business look in to this. I also know many young women who dream about having their own store,” Khatiashvili said.
“I would work in the cosmetics business with pleasure. As all women like to have as many beauty treatments as possible and use modern make-up and beauty treatments, myself included, the cosmetics business in my view is the best place for women to work, with good perspective for the future,” twenty-six year old Keti Gegidze told The FINANCIAL.
“I would like to own a beauty salon or medical centre. My friends and I spend so much money on trips to salons and beauty centres that I think it must be a very profitable business. Being in the health and beauty business has been my dream since childhood,” said Tamuna Tomaradze, 22.
Khatia Kiguradze, 34, says that she has been running a little café in the very centre of Tbilisi, but as she told The FINANCIAL, she would be the happiest women ever if she could run a fashionable, modern-design restaurant instead.
“When I was young I always dreamed of having my own restaurant with two floors and a highly professional design. I would like to offer people many different types of cuisine. If I had a restaurant I would offer people different Asian cuisine like Thai and Chinese. I would invite famous cooks from Asia and Europe. While working in my small café I have been preparing desserts myself which my clients have enjoyed. If I ever run my own restaurant I will definitely be involved in the kitchen with helping the chef to prepare the different dishes,” said Nanuka Rapava.
According to forty-three year old Nino Alavidze who works as a psychologist at a health centre, women can work anywhere they wish and be successful in any sphere, but she recommends that they aim to work in the top management of the hospitality business.
According to the women interviewed by The FINANCIAL, nowadays what women prefer is a high paying job over working in their favourite field but with a lower salary.
According to one of the world’s top publications – Forbes Women, the ten best jobs for women in 2013 are: Diagnosing doctors (dentists, optometrists, physicians); Health professionals (registered nurses, pharmacists, dieticians); Medical scientists; Lawyers and judges; Actuaries; Petroleum engineers; Psychologists; Top-level managers; Counsellors; Education administrators.
