The FINANCIAL — At the annual award ceremony organized by The Union of Oil Products Enterprisers, Importers and Customers, Wissol Petroleum Georgia was awarded in the majority of nominations.
The union summarized the year 2010 in the oil products business sector and revealed key players in different categories including the organisations that are the largest payers to the Georgian budget, the companies with the best infrastructure, the most charitable entity as well as the biggest importer.
Out of 18 nomination categories Wissol was winner in the majority of them, including being awarded for the largest petroleum station chain – owning 90 stations throughout the country; for the best infrastructure of oil and oil products land terminal; as the biggest employer – employing more than 2,400 individuals; as well as one of the most charitable companies. Moreover, the manager of one of the Wissol Petrol stations was named the oldest employed manager.
“This awards ceremony supports the motivation of companies involved in this sector, so that companies that manage to maximally legalize payment of taxes to the budget are recognized, and at the same time healthy competition is stimulated. It encourages companies to develop their network, as well as service terms, which overall are associated with client welfare,” said Vasil Khorava, General Director of Wissol Petroleum Georgia.
“We strongly believe that in the nomination categories where companies are awarded at the beginning of the year, this partly motivates and supports healthy competition among companies during the rest of the year,” Khorava added.
According to the result of the year 2010, the biggest tax payer company is Socar Petroleum Georgia, contributing 150 million GEL to the Georgian budget.
The payment to the budget includes all local taxes as well as import payments including excise tax, VAT, profits tax, and property tax.
“Tax payments and income from exports were less in 2010 compared to the previous year,” said Vano Mtvralashvili, Chairman of the Union of Oil Products Enterprisers, Importers and Customers.
“The total contribution from petrol companies was approximately 430 million GEL in 2010. Import decreased in 2010, however this does not mean demand for petrol usage decreased, as customers are simply putting more emphasis on natural gas, which is cheaper,” Mtvralashvili said.
As a surprise at the awards Wissol received Certificate of Merit from the World Customs Organization on the occasion of International Customs Day for rendering exceptional service to the international customs community.
2010 was one of the most successful years in Wissol history. In November 2010 Wissol was awarded the ‘Ruban d’Honneur’ Prize and was named among the 10 best companies of a total of 15,000 European brands at European Business Awards held in Paris. Wissol is the only Georgian company to have got the highest award for successful business operations.
Wissol Group made total investment of 40 million GEL in 2010. The major directions were the development of a Wissol Petroleum service station chain, as well as the building of recreation and sports complexes.
Wissol is one of the largest-scale business groups in Georgia incorporating Wissol Petroleum, Wissol Gas, Air Wissol, Wissol Gas Distribution Company, construction company Delta and advertising company Vellagio. Moreover, in 2010 the company demonstrated business diversification by introducing supermarket chain Smart.
Wissol Gas Distribution Company has been providing natural gas to Telavi since the year 2008, already supplying 11,000 families in the region. Since the year 2008 the company has provided gasification to 16 villages, in 2010 only the company added 7 villages to its gasification system.
