The FINANCIAL — Dr. Samson Phakhadze, Chairman of Wissol's Board of Directors has been elected as Chair and official representative of Global Compact Network of Georgia, the largest corporate responsibility network in the world.
At the annual Global Compact (GC) Network Meeting Georgian members of the United Nations Global Compact decided to create the organizational preconditions for more effective work in promoting the spirit and implementation of the basic principles of ethical business.
For this purpose, the Steering Committee for the Network was established with the role of giving the strategic direction to the initiative, and with a one-year term of office. In addition to Phakhadze, the GC members elected the following CEOs onto the Steering Committee: Michael Cowgill (Georgian American University), Giorgi Gvaladze (BP), Gilbert Hie (Bank Republic) and Inita Paulovica (UNDP).
Upon accepting his new role, Dr. Samson Phakhadze offered the following remarks:
“It is the honor and responsibility to be the chair and the official representative of the Global Compact Network of Georgia that is a strategic policy initiative for businesses that are committed to aligning their operations and strategies with universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption.
He continued: “The goal of Wissol is quest for excellence. With our successful business activities we want to contribute to the economic development of Georgia and social well-being of its population. Strong business in its turn means employed people, technological and infrastructural development, highly professional human capital and sustainable development of the local economy.”
The members have also unanimously confirmed the proposal that the American Chamber of Commerce in Georgia hold the function of the Network Secretariat, with full support of the UNDP GC Project during this transition period.
