The FINANCIAL — Wizz Air announced on February 22 further expansion and more local jobs for its Cluj base in 2018.
An additional new Airbus A320 aircraft will join Wizz Air’s Cluj fleet taking the total to 7 aircraft and will see the launch of new routes commencing from Cluj to Vienna, Austria and to Lyon, France. The new aircraft will also support more weekly flights on the domestic route to Bucharest and to 6 international destinations from Cluj to United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, France and Spain, as part of WIZZ’s schedule for winter 2018. Since 2007, Wizz Air continuously invested in its ever-growing network at Cluj International Airport, always looking to bring more low-fare travel opportunities for its customers. Today’s announcement brings WIZZ’s investment in Cluj to almost $770 million and in 2018 more than 2.1 million seats are offered on 36 routes to 18 countries. WIZZ network from Cluj will be further expanded and diversified this year with 3 long-awaited services to Vienna, Lyon and Athens. The new aircraft arriving in November will support the service of 21 new incremental flights per week, including the increased frequencies on seven popular services from Cluj to Rome, London Luton, Doncaster, Madrid, Dortmund, Paris and Bucharest. Expanding its operations in 2018 to seven modern aircraft, Wizz Air will create additional jobs and will have a local staff of more 250 direct employees, new cabin crew recruitment sessions being already scheduled for 5 March and 4 April in Cluj, according to Wizz Air.
Together with today’s announcement, Wizz Air also releases its 2018 winter schedule for Cluj. For the next two weeks the fares for the winter season, will be available to WIZZ Discount Club members only. Passengers planning their holidays or a weekend getaway from Cluj can now discover 36 destinations across 18 countries in Europe and beyond. In 2017, over 1.8 million passengers have enjoyed WIZZ’s low fares, easy booking system and excellent on-board service to and from Cluj, an increase of more than 31% compared to the previous year.

In 2018, WIZZ offers in total more than 8.9 million seats on sale from 10 Romanian airports on 147 routes to 21 countries, with 18 new routes still to commence, and will have in total 25 based aircraft, including 7 of the ultra-efficient brand new 230-seat Airbus A321, with more than 900 customer-oriented local crew.
