The FINANCIAL — Wizz Air announced on November 28 that it will base a second Airbus A320 aircraft at its Craiova base.
From March 2017 the airline will operate three new services from Craiova to Cologne in Germany, Liverpool in the United Kingdom and Madrid in Spain. The announcement follows the recent addition of Paris Beauvais and Venice Treviso to Wizz Air’s low-fare Craiova network.
The first WIZZ flight took off from Craiova to London Luton in 2013 and just after a year of successful operations, Wizz Air based one of its new Airbus A320 at Craiova Airport. Establishing base operations, WIZZ created 36 direct jobs and launched several new low-fare routes to such popular destinations as Rome, Milan and Bologna in Italy and Barcelona in Spain. In 2015, Wizz Air carried almost 150,000 passengers on its low-fare Craiova routes supporting over 100 local jobs.
The new aircraft represents an investment of € 98 million by WIZZ in Craiova, creating 36 additional direct jobs at the airline. Wizz Air’s new employees will join a dedicated local crew, who deliver excellent onboard service on each WIZZ flight, according to Wizz Air.
With the new services, Wizz Air now offers a total of 10 low-fare routes to five countries from Craiova. Â All flights are already on sale and can be booked on wizzair.com from RON 99.
Since its very first Romanian flight, Wizz Air has continuously grown its low-fare network in the country and currently offers 126 routes to 54 destinations from 10 Romanian airports. WIZZ’s Romanian operations not only provide affordable access at WIZZ’s lowest fares between Romania and the rest of Europe, but also stimulate the local job market in aviation and tourism sectors. Over 600 Wizz Air colleagues currently work in Romania, looking forward to welcoming passengers on board WIZZ’s Romanian flights, which this year will support more than 3,300* jobs in associated industries throughout the country.
Demonstrating WIZZ’s dedication to its Romanian customers the airline is continuously investing in its Romanian operations and will grow its fleet in the country to 20 aircraft by the end of 2016, including four of the ultra-efficient brand new 230-seat Airbus A321. Over the past 12 months ending 31 October 2016 Wizz Air carried more than 5,3 million passengers to and from Romania.
