The FINANCIAL — On 10 July 2015, Georgia’s interagency group headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Gigi Gigiadze held meetings with the EU on the issues of visa liberalisation. The delegation also included First Deputy Minister of Justice Alexandre Baramidze and Parliamentary Secretary of the Government Shalva Tadumadze.
The Georgian delegation held meetings with European Commission’s Director General of the Directorate General for Migration and Home Affairs (DG HOME) Matthias Ruete and European External Action Service (EEAS) Director for Russia, Eastern Partnership, Central Asia, Regional Cooperation and OSCE Gunnar Wiegand, according to MFA Georgia.
Talking points included progress Georgia has achieved in fulfilment of the European Commission’s recommendations, ongoing reforms and current challenges. The two sides agreed upon future plans that the European Commission by the end of the year will insure the adoption of the report on the fulfilment of visa liberalisation plan by Georgia.
Matthias Ruete and Gunnar Wiegand reaffirmed their support for Georgia in the process of visa liberalisation. They expressed the hope that Georgia will follow the recommendations and the European Commission’s final report will be issued.
