The FINANCIAL — In advance of Sunday’s She Runs 10K race in Mexico City, women’s marathon world record holder Paula Radcliffe helped launch the Nike Flyknit Lunar1+ in Mexico and provided inspiration to women running the race.
At the She Runs Race Expo on March 9, Radcliffe, along with top Mexican long-distance runner Marisol Romero and sprinter Matilde Alvarez Sierra, introduced the Nike FlyKnit Lunar1+, a breathable, lightweight shoe for everyday runners.
The flexible but supportive Nike Flyknit Lunar1+unites the virtually seamless upper using Nike Flyknit technology with the plush, responsive cushioning of Lunarlon.
Since its launch in February 2012, Nike Flyknit technology has redefined the development and creation of footwear, offering a more precise, individualized fit for wearers. Support and structure are knitted right into the Nike Flyknit upper, which helps reduce seams, weight and areas of friction, and keeps the shoe lightweight. At just 160 grams (5.6 ounces), the new Nike Flyknit Lunar1+ creates the feeling of a second skin.
At the Expo, Radcliffe participated of the Ultimate Flyknit Experience, an enhanced product trial platform that allows the runner to try the Nike FlyKnit Lunar1+ on a treadmill and see the results in 3D. The runner’s form is projected on a giant screen to show how the product works with a runner’s gait and footstrike.
As Nike said, on Sunday, in the Reforma area in the heart of Mexico´s Federal District, 10,000 women came together to participate in fifth-annual She Runs event, a Nike’s women´s-only competition that has become one of the most recognized events for the female running community. Radcliffe and Alvarez Sierra kicked off the race, firing the starting gun.
“I am thrilled to see the energy that all these women bring to this race and it’s great to feel the motivation and drive in a race designed just for us,” said Radcliffe at the finish line, where she greeted the first runners to cross.
The She Runs Series began back in 2009, with almost 20,000 women joining. That successful platform evolved through the years and has since expanded its reach, depth and impact. The series kicks off in Mexico City and will conclude on May 25 in Seoul, Korea after 14 races in 13 countries.
