The FINANCIAL — Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said the experience of Greek companies in preparations for the 2004 Olympics in Athens is useful for Ukraine.
Ukrainian News learned this from a statement by the presidential press service.
"I think the experience of Greek companies who took part in the preparations for the Olympics in Athens in 2004 can be useful for Ukraine," said Yanukovych during a meeting with Greek President Karolos Papoulias.
The Ukrainian companies it their turn have a big experience in designing and construction of oil pipelines and gas pipelines and could be engaged in the realization of such projects on the territory of Greece, said Yanukovych.
President Viktor Yanukovych said Ukraine is interested in expanding bilateral trade and economic cooperation.
In this context, a priority-driven task is restoration and boosting the volumes of mutual trade, said the Ukrainian president.
"We consider it necessary to take efforts to save the investment cooperation between Ukraine and Greece from the negative influence of the world economic and financial crisis," he said.
In his opinion, the volumes of the Ukrainian-Greek cooperation does not meet the potential Ukraine can offer.
In the opinion of President Viktor Yanukovych, promising areas of cooperation between Ukraine and Greece also include the engineering industry, the shipbuilding industry, and the renewable sources of energy.
Greek President Karolos Papoulias in his turn highly praised the attention of the Ukrainian government and the president of Ukraine toward the needs of the Greek Diaspora in Ukraine.
In the opinion of the President of Greece, this attention of the Ukrainian government toward the Greece community in Ukraine works for consolidation of the ties between the two countries.
The President of Greece noted that tens of thousands of ethnic Greeks live in Ukraine.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, President Viktor Yanukovych on Sunday morning left for Greece for a visit.
