The FINANCIAL — On 17 November 2016, Yerevan hosted the 8th informal Eastern Partnership (EaP) Ministerial meeting, which besides the Foreign Ministers’ session, provided for the session on research, science and innovation with the participation of the ministers of science and technology.
The meeting from the Georgia side was attended by Deputy Foreign Minister Gigi Gigiadze and Deputy Minister of Education and Science Tamaz Marsagishvili. The European Union was represented by European Union Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn, EU Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation Carlos Moedas and Deputy Secretary General for Political Affairs – Political Director for the European External Action Service (EEAS) Jean-Christophe Belliard. High-level delegations from five EaP member states also attended the meeting.
At the meeting of the Foreign Ministers, discussions focused on the progress achieved in implementation of priorities agreed at the EaP Summit in Riga in 2015 and on the need to increase EaP efficiency, according to MFA of Georgia.
The EaP Informal dialogue was initiated by the European Union in 2013 and provides for informal dialogue at the level of Foreign ministers and sectoral Ministers. Meetings are held twice a year and are attended by the Foreign and sectoral Ministers of the partner countries, European Commissioners and high-ranking officials.
