The FINANCIAL — Yoga is becoming very popular among Georgians, especially among young women. “The extent of the popularity of Yoga is due to it being trendy throughout Hollywood and Europe. Now people in this country are becoming more aware of both the fame and the benefits of Yoga. They are realizing that Yoga is very enjoyable and practical for both their private lives and business,” says George Berdzenishvili, Yoga instructor at Prime Fitness centre and Head of the Yoga Federation in Georgia.
The Yoga centre is part of Prime Fitness club located in the Vake district of Tbilisi. The number of Georgian visitors has significantly increased over time, Berdzenishvili says.
“The main point is to raise awareness of Yoga. The Federation of Yoga in Georgia will raise the demand and interest of Yoga among Georgians,” Berdzenishvili says.
“It’s the 5th month that I have been attending Yoga. It’s not actually a tiring physical exercise and when training you feel completely relaxed,” says Nino Cholokashvili, Senior Consultant of TBSC Consulting.
“I decided to take Yoga lessons in order to relax and rest after very my busy working day. I am sitting at work all day long; it badly affects my spine and even induces stress,” she says.
Cholokashvili visits the Yoga centre with her friend and colleague Nino Vashakidze three times a week. Vashakidze first became familiar with Yoga when studying in the Netherlands.
“Generally a healthy lifestyle combined with exercise helps people who live an active life and are very busy. When working all day long the brain gets overloaded with different problems and definitely needs to relax. Sitting in front of a TV is not real relaxation after a busy day, so physical activity during this period is of high importance,” says Vashakidze, Partner of TBSC Consulting.
“I would advise Yoga courses to all business people, because they will definitely feel more relaxed and calm after a hard working day. Yoga training really helps your business because you are then refreshed and able to gain strength during the working day or even during important meetings,” Cholokashvili says.
“Yoga is not intensive and is easily combined with a working schedule. You are not tired after Yoga and are able to go anywhere and even have fun in the evening following the training,” Vashakidze says.
“Exercising one’s eyes is very useful for business people. After sitting at a computer the whole day these exercises help to keep your eyes healthy,” Cholokashvili says.
“I am always advising people to start Yoga, especially busy people. They should definitely at least try Yoga and then I am sure that they will want to continue,” Cholokashvili says.
“The aim of Yoga is a concentration on movements. During the period of training you forget about all other things surrounding you and concentrate only on Yoga. You think only about how to stand in one of the Yoga positions in the right way and keep your balance,” Vashakidze says.
“As opposed to other sports Yoga has the ability to bring on a feeling of calm and balance. Yoga teaches you how to control yourself, because yoga positions demand high concentration and keeping one’s balance. It also makes you control your force. All these elements help you in your everyday life,” Vashakidze says.
“Fitness Yoga is European Yoga. In India, Yoga as a form of fitness is not popular. Yoga makes you healthy and removes stress and generally keeps you fit. Yoga has not made me lose weight as much as other more dynamic means of exercising,” Berdzenishvili says.
“I started Yoga training when I was 13. Later on I myself started giving lessons in Yoga. At the beginning demand for it was very low but has now become more popular in the country,” Berdzenishvili says.
To promote Yoga in Georgia, the centre is now offering one free lesson.
The price of classes per month is 90 GEL.
