The FINANCIAL — According to RIA Novosti, Ukrainian President Victor Yushchenko said on January 10 Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko should quit politics, the Ukrainian Unian news agency said.
"She should take a rest, at least for a while, because each month of her work results in a colossal poverty in our country," the president was quoted as saying at a meeting with residents of the country's central Cherkassk region.
Both Yushchenko and Tymoshenko will run in the Ukrainian presidential elections due on January 17 among 16 other candidates.
The final opinion polls, which under Ukrainian law are published two weeks before the election, showed Tymoshenko running second to Party of Regions leader Viktor Yanukovych.
Yushchenko is expected to receive less than 5% of the first-round vote.
