The FINANCIAL — Mark Zuckerberg, chief executive of Facebook, while talking at Indian Institute of Technology in New Delhi on October 28 said he will support net neutrality. He said it is an important principle and would support it in terms of regulations and building an open platform for any developer, according to Nasdaq.
Net neutrality refers to preserving the right to communicate freely and without any discrimination in charges for different types of users or applications.
Zuckerberg noted that Zero Rating is not against net neutrality. “If Zero Rating allows people to access Internet, then who is going to get hurt by that,” he asked. To a question whether Internet.org would support net neutrality, Zuckerberg replied in the affirmative.
Facebook Chief said the company is working on artificial intelligence that can describe photos to blind people. He hoped that within a decade, there will be computer systems that can recognize things around the globe, translate and understand languages in a better way.
He said there are more than 130 million users for Facebook in India and can’t connect the world without connecting India.
