The FINANCIAL — A business story wall launched at The University of Auckland’s Business School this week will kickstart a campaign to get New Zealand’s successful enterprise culture ‘up close and personal’ for current and future business students.
Business School Dean Professor Greg Whittred says making business visible to students is a priority for the School. “Ensuring that New Zealand’s enterprise culture is celebrated and is accessible to students is of prime importance to us,” Professor Whittred says.
“This story wall was conceived in the early stages of the Owen G Glenn building planning process, and is the first step in showcasing inspirational business stories throughout the building.”
Designed by Sanders Design, the 50m long illuminated installation tells the story of New Zealand enterprise and economic development, from the first Maori-European contact and colonisation through to the sophisticated South Pacific nation that New Zealand is today
Included on the wall are the stories of DB Breweries, Farmers Trading Company, Zespri, Tait Electronics, Fletcher Construction and AJ Hackett.
DB Breweries Managing Director Brian Blake says most CEOs look forwards, grappling with issues relating to culture, budget, and operational expertise, but they often overlook the power of a company’s history..
“We are very proud to be associated with the business story wall, and believe this will be an important addition to the student experience,” he says.
Designer Karl Burke says projects like the business story wall are very rare, and offer a unique opportunity to create something special that is sophisticated and inspiring.
“This wall celebrates New Zealand’s enterprise culture, and we hope it inspires that as well.”
