The FINANCIAL — Ed. Züblin AG, a leading German construction and engineering company based in Stuttgart, and Bayer MaterialScience AG intend to cooperate on sustainable construction. Both companies have now signed a memorandum of understanding on a pilot project in the turn-key construction of an energy-efficient commercial building.
As part of the agreement, the EcoCommercial Building program of Bayer MaterialScience and its network members will partner with Züblin regarding integrated consulting, energy and material solutions.
“Green buildings increasingly attract the attention of real estate investors and developers because they offer a win-win situation in terms of both protecting the environment and reducing operating costs over the lifecycle of a building,” says Jörn Beckmann, member of the Züblin Board of Management. “Through our cooperation with Bayer MaterialScience and its EcoCommercial Building program, we aim to strengthen our position as a leading company for sustainable solutions in construction,” Beckmann adds.
The key focus of the cooperation with Züblin will be on optimizing the energy demand of buildings through building envelope insulation concepts, energy-efficient building technologies, renewable energy applications, and interior solutions to increase user comfort and health as well as energy efficiency.
“Our EcoCommercial Building program is an entirely new business model we have developed for the construction industry,” says Peter Vanacker, member of the Executive Committee of Bayer MaterialScience and global sponsor of the EcoCommercial Building program. “Most of the solutions for constructing green buildings are already available in the marketplace. Taking on a system integration role, the program allows the industry to leverage the potential of new developments in materials and technologies, and to put sustainable construction into practice,” Vanacker explains.
Bayer MaterialScience has established the EcoCommercial Building program to support decision makers in the construction industry globally in constructing ‘green’ and economic buildings.
“The program offers decision makers in the construction industry access to leading experts and state-of-the-art solutions – custom-tailored across the entire range of applications from analysis and planning to energy efficient materials and building technologies,” says Dr. Thomas Braig, Head of the EcoCommercial Building program in the Europe, Middle East, Africa Region. “This ultimately means more competition for the best solution, and can thus significantly improve the cost-effectiveness and sustainability of buildings – benefitting the building owner, its tenant and the environment,” Braig adds.
“We intend to fully utilize the potential offered by the EcoCommercial Building program’s holistic approach and innovative product solutions. We are thus able to further increase the sustainability and value of the turn-key buildings provided by Züblin and to strengthen our position as a market leader in construction and engineering in Germany,” summarizes Jörn Beckmann.
