The FINANCIAL — As a result of successful partnership between Chevening Programme and Bank of Georgia five Georgian scholars are already selected for the 2014/2015 study year to continue their education in UK Universities, while only three scholars were chosen last year. Alexandra Hall Hall, British Ambassador together with Irakli Gilauri, CEO of Bank of Georgia hosted a reception to bid farewell to Georgian scholars.
“The Chevening scheme has proved so successful that the British Government has decided to triple the allocation of awards to over 1500 scholarships across the world, including Georgia, in 2015-2016, meaning that next year our allocation of scholarships will again increase,” said Alexandra Hall Hall, British Ambassador. “This is the strongest testament both to the value of the scheme, and the quality of Georgian students who apply. We are also celebrating UK-Georgia educational links. I wish this year’s group every success,” she added.
The event, which was attended by government officials, civil society and members of the business community, also celebrated wider UK-Georgia educational ties, as well as the continuation of a Partnership between the Chevening Programme and Bank of Georgia. Under the Partnership agreement, Bank of Georgia fully funded two scholarships in the current study year and will further support the scheme through funding up to three scholars in the coming year.
“We are particularly grateful that Bank of Georgia has decided to continue its sponsorship of the Georgia Chevening Programme through supporting two scholars to benefit from this wonderful scheme for a second year, bringing our total number of scholarship places for 2014 to five,” said Hall Hall.
“I am very pleased to announce continuation of the partnership between Bank of Georgia and Chevening that aims to give Georgian students an excellent opportunity to get the best quality education,” said Irakli Gilauri. “I believe providing and spreading education is the key to ensuring a better future for the generations to come. This is why Bank of Georgia is committed to raising access to quality education for students in Georgia through a number of ways, including setting up its own Bank of Georgia University,” he added.
