The FINANCIAL — Following the face-to-face meeting, the President of Georgia, H.E. Giorgi Margvelashvili and the President of the Hellenic Republic, H.E. Prokopis Pavlopoulos held another meeting along with state delegations to discuss the prospects of developing bilateral cooperation.
At the meeting, President Pavlopoulos has stressed the necessity of strengthening political and economic cooperation between the two countries. Future prospects of cooperation in energy, transport and infrastructure have also been discussed. As he further added, centuries-old ties between Georgia and Greece work in favor of Georgia’s European identity. The Greek party has emphasized the significance of Georgia, as the road connecting Europe to Asia; prospects of the Silk Road and transit opportunities opened up by Georgia for European counties have also been discussed. Conversation has also touched upon the Black Sea security issues.
President Margvelashvili has thanked his counterpart for Greece’s unwavering support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and the key contribution that Greece has put to granting Georgia visa free movement to the European Union. As noted, it is crucial to maintain Georgia’s positive dynamics on the path of European and Euro-Atlantic integration, according to the Administration of the President of Georgia.
The parties have also spoken about cultural and educational cooperation. As emphasized, it is necessary to renew the bilateral cooperation agreement in the field of education. The importance of protection of cultural and historical heritage, including those in the occupied territories has also been underlined. The parties have underscored the role of strong diasporas in both countries and the necessity to further support diaspora activities.
Georgian state delegation having attended the meeting is comprised of Head of Administration of President Margvelashvili, Mr. Giorgi Abashishvili, Secretary of the National Security Council, Mr. Davit Rakviashvili, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Vakhtang Makharoblishvili, Advisor to President Margvelashvili for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Tengiz Pkhaladze, Political Secretary of President Margvelashvili, Ms. Pikria Chikhradze, Advisor to President Margvelashvili in Ethnic Minority Issues, Ms. Sophio Shamanidi and Ambassador of Georgia to the Hellenic Republic, Mr. Ioseb Nanobashvili.
