The FINANCIAL — EUROCHAMBRES has called for every effort to be made to ensure free trade between the EU and Turkey, and underlined its opposition to economic barriers, including boycotts of EU products.
EUROCHAMBRES, the European association of chambers of commerce & industry, is a consistent proponent of fair and open trade, and has for many years been actively involved in joint initiatives to strengthen EU-Turkey commercial links. “Commerce is the cornerstone of EU-Turkey relations, so every effort must be made to preserve free trade and to avoid the introduction of boycotts or other economic barriers,” said EUROCHAMBRES President, Christoph Leitl.
In a phone call earlier today with President Leitl, the President of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey, Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, expressed that the organisation is committed to free trade and against economic barriers.
President Leitl also highlighted the current context: “Even in good times, barriers to trade are damaging, but we are currently in the middle of a deep global economic crisis. Businesses in the EU, Turkey and elsewhere are suffering enough without having to deal with additional obstacles”.
