The FINANCIAL — President & CEO of SZSE Wang Jianjun led a delegation to Geneva, Switzerland to attend the World Investment Forum organized by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development and gave a keynote speech on SZSE’s experience in promoting sustainable financial innovation development.
Wang said that China has always attached importance to sustainable development. President Xi Jinping proposed the theory that lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets to promote “green development” to an unprecedented height and to comprehensively guide China’s ecological conservation construction and economic and social development in the new era.
Strengthening ecological environmental protection in financial activities can effectively guide resources to flow to the green field and play an important role in promoting sustainable development. As the core institution of China’s capital market, SZSE provides a smooth financing channel for the development of the green industry through multi-tiered market construction. Meanwhile, it has carried out environmental information disclosure and green index compilation early to lead the market’s green development which has achieved remarkable results.
At present, among the 2126 listed companies on SZSE, 116 units are engaged in green industry-related businesses, with a financing scale of about CNY213 billion. A total of 128 green fixed-income products have been issued, raising funds of CNY81.5 billion, in addition to the 13 products which are in the process of issuance and planned to raise CNY19.7 billion.
Besides, innovative products such as green ABS and green PPP have been launched to raise over CNY15 billion, with basic interests including waste incineration, sewage treatment, wind power, and bio-power generation. As early in 2008, SZSE launched China’s first environmental protection index. In 2017, it cooperated with institutions such as the Luxembourg Stock Exchange to simultaneously release the Green Bond Index in China and Europe.
Participants of the forum spoke highly of SZSE’s promotion of sustainable financial innovation. They believe that the capital market has great room for promoting sustainable development. They call on all relevant parties to work together to continuously strengthen the green responsibility of listed companies, promote ESG financial product innovation, broaden financing channels for green enterprises and explore green finance development methods that can be replicated and promoted, so as to promote sustainable financial and economic development at a higher level and on a larger scale.
