The FINANCIAL — “DHL has always been a flagship in terms of developing IT and offering electronic products to its customers,” Zura Sapanadze, Regional Manager at DHL Georgia told The FINANCIAL.
DHL Georgia has recently created new programs to simplify the process of shipment for the customers.
DHL Georgia plans to use Georgia’s geographical location and strengthen its potential to be a logistic hub. For this reason it is important to establish right legislative and investment policy, believes Sapanadze.
The company sees huge opportunity in expanding its business in complex logistic and domestic transportation during 2014. Georgia’s express industry showed 3-4 percent growth during 2013.
The annual income of Georgian Express increased by one percent which was caused by “closing the businesses in several directions”. The increase was shown in the domestic shipping market in 2014. The banking and insurance sectors were the most active in terms of business activity.
The EU member countries, USA, China and Russia were listed at the top for transportation in 2014.
Currently, with its regional network of offices, Georgian Express covers the whole territory of Georgia. The company provides full coverage of services on the level of regional centres.
DHL is present in over 220 countries and territories across the globe, making it the most international company in the world. With a workforce exceeding 325,000 employees, DHL provides solutions for an almost infinite number of logistics needs.
DHL is part of the world’s leading postal and logistics Group, Deutsche Post DHL Group and encompasses three divisions: DHL Express, DHL Global Forwarding, Freight and DHL Supply Chain.

Q. What are the challenges that the company faces today?
A. The Government’s approval of the new law on postal service is the main challenge for us. This law is initiated by the Economy Ministry which aims to make Georgia’s Post as a monopoly on the market. This draft law does not meet the Euro regulation requirements as well as does not respond the proper conditions for creating the competitive business environment.
For today the draft law is returned to the Ministry for further amendments. Independent business entities, non-governmental organizations and different experts will take part in the process of making changes in the draft law.
I hope the new version will be much better.
Q. What are the main demands that your customers have towards your company?
A. Reliability of shipping, speed, high quality of service, friendliness of staff and efficiently meeting the innovative needs of business – are the main requirements of our customers.
Demand has been changing during the years depended on the priorities of the customers. However, high quality remains the number one demand of our customers.
Q. How the business has been developing in Georgia and how does the development level meet the European standards?
A. DHL is a global company. Having a high standard and good quality business in each country is very important to DHL. Of course our contribution to world business is very small, but in DHL’s supply chain Georgia is one of the strongest rings. Thus our contribution is larger than can be expressed in figures.
Q. What do you think why DHL was named as a Golden Brand worth company?
A. During the last few years DHL has been awarding with Golden Brand Award. This means that the company stably maintains the position of the favourite brand in logistic sphere. This recognition once again highlights the stability and reliability of our company.
