The City of Fort Lauderdale is committed to a greener, healthier, more energy-efficient world. That is why we are partnering with the Arbor Day Foundation to provide free energy-saving trees to Fort Lauderdale residents. Beginning Tuesday, March 19, Fort Lauderdale residents can visit www.arborday.org/fortlauderdale to select a free tree from the following species:
- Bald Cypress
- Live Oak
- Sweet Bay Magnolia
- Dahoon Holly
- Crape Myrtle ‘Muskogee’
The chosen tree will be mailed directly to each home at no charge within 4-6 weeks after the request is placed. During the ordering process, residents will be able to see an interactive view of their property to help them determine the planting location around their home that provides the greatest environmental impact and energy savings.
A limited number of trees are available as part of this pilot program. One tree may be requested per home. Visit www.arborday.org/fortlauderdale to be notified as soon as the site is open for reservations on Tuesday, March 19.
The City has been recognized as a Tree City USA and Tree City of the World by the Arbor Day Foundation. We’re proud to sponsor the Arbor Day Foundation’s Energy-Saving Trees program to help our neighbors maximize the benefits of trees in their yards. Trees around homes can:
- help reduce the amount of energy your home requires;
- increase property value;
- reduce your carbon footprint;
- improve air quality; and
- more effectively catch stormwater runoff.
Thanks for participating in this exciting new tree initiative and helping the City achieve our goal of 33% canopy coverage by 2040.
Neighbors with questions about the program may contact the Arbor Day Foundation at 855-234-3801 or info@arborday.org or the Sustainability Division of the City’s Public Works Department at sustainability@fortlauderdale.gov.
