The FINANCIAL — Abbot Downing is expanding its Family Dynamics and Education practice with the addition of senior family dynamics consultant, Jill Shipley, who brings 15 years of experience working with family enterprises, according to Wells Fargo.
Abbot Downing, with $37.9 billion in client assets and a 40-year history serving ultra-high-net-worth clients, is part of Wells Fargo’s Wealth, Brokerage and Retirement group, a leading U.S. wealth manager, with $1.5 trillion in client assets.
Shipley was awarded the Rising Star Award at the 2014 Family Wealth Report Awards for her approach to working with ultra-high-net-worth clients on the complexities of multi-generational wealth transfer. She previously served as director of family education at GenSpring, where she was responsible for wealth education and worked with clients to enhance family cohesiveness, prepare heirs and plan for transitions. Prior to this role, Shipley was assistant director of the Family Business Center at Stetson University, where she was an adjunct professor in Family Business and co-developed the university’s academic major in Family Business. In her new role, she will report to Arne Boudewyn, head of Family Dynamics and Education at Abbot Downing.
“We help clients develop cohesive dialogue between generations to perpetuate a healthy legacy for their families and the communities they care about,” Boudewyn said. “We continue to see a growing demand for these important services that help families make decisions based on a shared sense of values, mission and vision.”
Shipley joins a team of highly credentialed consultants with doctorate degrees in behavioral and social sciences. The team works with clients to develop strategies for communication, education and philanthropic giving. Abbot Downing was one of the first firms to create a family dynamics team more than a decade ago, according to Wells Fargo.
A graduate of Stetson University, Shipley holds a master’s degree in business administration and a bachelor’s degree in business with an emphasis on family business. She was awarded the Claritas Investment Certificate from the CFA Institute and is certified as an Effective Meeting Facilitator and as a Wealth International Money Coach. She serves as a board member for Stetson University’s Family Enterprise Center and for McCann & Consulting, a family business consulting practice. Shipley also is an advisor to the Redwoods Initiative, a not-for-profit venture focused on wealth education, and is an active member of the Family Office Exchange and the Family Firm Institute.
The Family Dynamics and Education practice works closely with the Abbot Downing team of professionals who provide planning, asset management, private banking, and trust, fiduciary and administrative services to the firm’s more than 600 clients, according to Wells Fargo.
