Tashkent, October, 12, 2024. – On October 11, 2024, a television-documentary film “The Georgian Football Trio” was presented in Tashkent, dedicated to the life and career of a brothers Shota, Archil and Rezo Arveladze, a film won the Milan International Sports Film Festival (2020). The film was created in 2020 by Georgian film director, laureate of several international film festivals Gogi Toradze (since 2023, he is the vice-president of the Georgian National Film Academy). The screening of the film was organized by the management of the FC “Pakhtakor” Tashkent and the Arveladze Brothers Charity Foundation operating in Tbilisi. To the film presentation were attended by: Dimitri Adisman the general director of football club “Pakhtakor”, coaches and employees of this club academy, uzbek journalists, film director Gogi Toradze and the author of these lines.
The screening of the film in Tashkent was of particular importance, since from June 2017 to the end of 2020, Shota Arveladze was the head coach of “Pakhtakor”, his twin brother Archil worked at the club’s administration. They left a noticeable mark on the history of the leading team of Uzbekistan and are especially respected in this country. G. Toradze said: “I began collecting materials about the career of the Arveladze brothers together with the famous director Juber Ebralidze (1933-2018) in the late 1990s, when the brothers successfully played in European clubs and the Georgian national team as well, the football players provided me with interesting video materials, in different years I visited Turkey, the Netherlands, Germany, where Shota, Archil and Rezo played, recorded interviews with several stars of European football. The Association of Sports Journalists of Georgia, headed by Mikheil Abaishvili, provided assistance in the creation of the film in 2020.”
In September 2020, the film was presented to the Milan Sports Film Festival, which is held under the auspices of the International Olympic Committee and under the motto “Sport in Cinema and Television”. In 2020, more than 630 films from 123 countries were presented in various nominations at the Milan Forum, the film “Georgian Football Trio” participated in the nomination “Football in Cinema and Television”. “The success of the film is not only my success, but also the success of Georgian football and recognition of the special role of the Arveladze brothers – after all, never before anywhere have three brothers played for the national team of a particular country at the same time,” Toradze said.
The premiere of the film in Georgia took place in July 2021 in Tbilisi with the participation of the Arveladze brothers.
About the film “The Georgian Football Trio”
The film tells about the Arveladze brothers’ game at the FC “Dinamo” Tbilisi, in clubs of Turkey, the Netherlands, Germany, Scotland, Spain, provides an interview of the legendary Georgian footballer David Kipiani (1951-2001) given to the director of the film in the late 1990s, as well as part of a 1995 interview with Suleyman Demirel (then Demirel was the president of Turkey – author’s note) after one of the “Trabzonspor” matches with the participation of the Arveladze twins. The film shows episodes from the brothers’ memories, stories of their father Justine and mother Tamar, provides footage of R. Arveladze’s meeting with Michel Platini in Tbilisi in 2015 – the then UEFA president arrived for the UEFA Super Cup final (“Barcelona” – “Sevilla”). The film shows the visit to Tashkent (May 1, 2018) of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the ceremony of his meeting with the political and business elite of Uzbekistan. On this meeting Erdogan had had invited Shota and Archil Arveladze to stage, remarked and spoke about their contribution to the development of football. Footage is shown of Shota’s farewell match “Arveladze’s Friends Team” (World Stars) with the Georgian national team in Tbilisi in 2008. The film tells about the activities of the charitable “Arveladze Brothers Foundation” to develop children’s football in Georgia and implement social projects.

Toradze has created 48 television, documentary, feature-documentary, short and feature films, and 18 of them were devoted to sports topics: these are the documentary films “Commentator” (1981, about the legendary sports commentator Kote Makharadze), “Professor of Football” (2015, about the outstanding football player Alexander Chivadze), “Georgian basketball” (2014), “Oval ball” (2011, about Georgian rugby), “Georgian wrestlers” (2018), “Olympic champion” (2021, about Gela Ketashvili, the only Georgian football player-Olympic Champion), “Triumph” (2022, about the Tbilisi “Dinamo” basketball players winning the European Champions Cup in 1962), “Sniper” (2022, about Nino Salukvadze- the Olympic champion the pistol shooting 1988). The documentary film “Sokhumi – Tbilisi – Sidney” (2024 about tripl Olympic champion Victor Saneeyv who is awared as a “Best man sportsman of Georgia of XX century” ), The film “Lery” (2024, about Lery Khabelov – the Olympic Champion 1992, the five-time World champion and the four-time European champion ) and e.t.
INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION
The several sports films by Gogi Toradze from last 10 years have become laureates at international film festivals in Naples, Tashkent, Milan, Sydney and Buenos Aires.
2018-2024, the author of these lines organized screenings of several sports films by G. Toradze in Kazakhstan and Latvia (2018), Moldova, Ukraine, Belarus and Portugal (2019) and in Sweden (2023), sports veterans, young athletes and representatives of the public were invited to the presentations.
