The FINANCIAL — The EU-funded European Neighbourhood Programme for Agriculture & Rural Development (ENPARD) in Georgia is helping to increase the volume of farmers’ production, helping wine production in Kutaisi through support to agricultural cooperatives.
Thanks to co-financing and technical support from ENPARD, two cooperatives, `Terjola Wine` and `Winery Sazano`, will be able to increase production and improve the quality of the bottles and labelling system.
The ENPARD grants scheme aims to increase the efficiency of agricultural production by promoting sustainable models of business-oriented agricultural cooperatives. The grants were awarded following a selection process, to which over 700 small farmers’ groups applied. The cooperatives received trainings in business planning and development, as well as technical advice, according to EU Neighbourhood Info.
The European Neighbourhood Programme for Agriculture and Rural Development (ENPARD) was launched in 2012. The programme aims at boosting the production of food in Georgia and at reducing rural poverty. Besides the grants component, ENPARD also provides direct budget support to the Government of Georgia for the implementation of its agriculture sector strategy, and brings expertise and know-how to the authorities.
