There are currently no signs that Russia has sufficient forces for a counteroffensive in Kursk Oblast, according to Lt. Col. Matiis Puusepp, deputy chief of staff of the Estonian Defense Forces Division, reported ERR.
“Russian social media reports suggest that the Russian Armed Forces will soon launch a counteroffensive. However, there are currently no indications that the Russian Armed Forces have enough forces or the necessary areas to deploy such significant actions,” Puusepp said.
Puusepp noted that the primary combat activities are occurring near Sudzha, approximately 44 kilometers northeast of Sumy and about 10 kilometers from the state border.
“Based on data from open-source maps, over 500 square kilometers of territory in Kursk Oblast is under the control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces,” he added.

According to DeepState, within the first day of the raid, Ukrainian forces had captured three villages and surrounded the Sudzha checkpoint.
On Aug. 9, the mayor of Kurchatov, Ihor Korpunkov, reported that fighting was taking place several dozen kilometers from the city, where the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant is located.
On Aug. 11, AFP, citing a high-ranking Ukrainian official, reported that thousands of Ukrainian soldiers were participating in a military operation in Kursk Oblast.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed for the first time that the Defense Forces were conducting operations in Kursk Oblast. He emphasized that the goal of the operation was to liberate Ukraine’s border territories from Russian forces that had been regularly shelling Sumy Oblast.
On the same day, Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi stated that Ukrainian troops control about 1,000 square kilometers in Kursk Oblast.
On Aug. 13, Zelenskyy announced control over 74 settlements in the Russian region.
On Aug. 14, Syrskyi announced that Ukrainian forces had completed the destruction of the occupiers in the city of Sudzha. Ukrainian journalists shared video footage from the city.
