Rodrigo Bentancur suffered a shocking head injury after trying to flick on a corner during Tottenham’s Carabao Cup clash against Liverpool on Wednesday night, GBnews reported.
The midfielder’s neck appeared to jolt sickeningly, which left him flat out on the pitch.
Pedro Porro sprinted over and alerted officials before paramedics rushed over to attend to the Uruguay international.
There was immediate concern from fans around the stadium, including those nearest to the incident.
His team-mates looked clearly concerned and Dominic Solanke was among those who needed consoling.
Brennan Johnson replaced Bentancur as the match went on as applause rang around the stadium for the midfield ace as the stretcher went down the tunnel.
It took nearly seven minutes before Bentancur was taken off the pitch as he was attended to by medics.
The 27-year-old needed oxygen as he was taken away as fans await further updates on his condition.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, former Manchester City star Michael Brown said: “I think those players pretty much know what it is [Bentancur’s injury].

They remain in the FA Cup and Europa League but they are on the edge of reaching the final of the Carabao Cup.
However, a dangerous Liverpool stand in their way – who have lost just once this season.
