Tariff-ic government? For Donald Trump, today has been ‘Liberation Day’, with the American president later set to announce further tariffs, on top of the import taxes already announced. But while the EU say they are preparing a robust response, the British government have currently promised not to do anything ‘knee-jerk’.
For many, the British government’s response to the issues surrounding tariffs leaves something to be desired. 44% of the public say the government are handling the issue badly, twice the 22% who say they have handled them well.
While Labour voters are divided 38% to 32% over whether the government are handling the issues around tariffs well or badly, Conservative and Reform UK voters are more unified, with 59% and 66% respectively saying the government is handling the matter poorly.
